Captain James Cook - a picture from his Third Voyage

Captain James Cook is one of the most romantic and loved figures of adventurous history. Captain Cook sailed on his third and last world voyage in 1776-1779. There are many fascinating lithographs from his last world voyage. Here we see "A Young Woman of Otaheite, bring a present". She was from modern day Tahiti and was bringing a huge present under that rather large dress. How odd! Or... is she holding a coffin like robe covered present that has nothing to do with her dress? The credits are J. Webber (del) F. Bartolozzi (sc), i.e John Webber painted the original and Bartolozzi was the accomplished Lithograph maker. It's beautiful isn't it, and the paper hasn't faded in sunlight in over 200 years.
